The Daredevil

One of the big things I’ve been trying to do in the past year is to make sure I have new experiences, make new memories. When I hurt my back and wasn’t able to leave the house I decided I was going to do things that put me out of my comfort zone, and instead of watching on the sidelines, wishing I had the guts to do things, I was going to do them.

Part of that has been attending shows at Bowling Green’s SKYPAC whenever one strikes me as interesting. SKYPAC for those of you who don’t live here is a performing arts center. It’s fairly new to us, and we get some interesting stuff. It’s nice to be able to see a live show, and not have to travel to Nashville. Instead of an hour drive home, it’s a ten minute drive home.

This week we went to see a show called “The Illusionists – Live From Broadway”. Michael has always had a love of magic and illusion. I bought the tickets thinking they’d be a cool way for him to see a magic show, and it’s something I’ve never seen before. So win/win.

The show itself was amazing. There were five Illusionists. The Mentalist, the Manipulator, the Daredevil, the Trickster, and the Illusive. All of them were amazing performers and for the two hours we watched, Michael and I were amazed, asking each other how one of them did something, and we laughed so much my sides hurt the next day.

One thing I took away from it though, was the Daredevil had amazing stage presence. Better than most of the other people on the show. He was good at playing to the audience and the stuff he did, was pretty daredevil-ish. Needless to say, half-way through his first ‘skit’ – I had an idea for a new romance book.

The idea hasn’t let go, and I’m in the middle of outlining it.

The best thing about being an author is we find inspiration in the every day, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
